Implementing a Spending Fast and Setting Side Hustle Goals

I decided to implement a spending fast each month to really tighten the belt and cut back on spending.  The spending fast would be for a minimum of 7 days and you will not be able to spend any money at all from your normal income.  If you do spend money, it has to be found money only.   Found money sounds exactly like what it is:  money you found on the ground, in your car, stuffed under couch cushions...you get the idea.  You're not allowed to ask someone to pay for things on your behalf.  If someone offers to buy you a meal or a gift, then it's okay, but you're not allowed to solicit things from others.  You are allowed to pay your rent/mortgage, utilities, and other normal, required living expenses if they are due during your chosen Spending Fast dates.  For myself, I'm setting the goal at a Spending Fast every last week of the month. Side Hustle Goals I have set a goal to make a minimum of $1100 per month until the end of the year starting this June.  I don&

Making Money Entering Sweepstakes!

This is one of my fave hobbies for getting things for free and even making money.  All sweepstakes in the US are free to enter.  The official rules of every US sweepstake always lists the Free Method of Entries for sweeps where a code is required.  Any sweep that requires you to pay and doesn't list a free method of entry or any sweep that requires you to send them money to get a prize is a scam. I have been entering sweepstakes for a few years now.  I do online, social media, and mail in sweeps.  I have won parties, electronics, games, toys, clothing, gift cards, cash, and event tickets.  I pretty much enter any and all sweeps I come across.  It doesn't cost a penny, just my time.  While folks are watching tv or going to happy hour, I'm entering sweeps.  To make money off of sweeps, if the prize itself isn't cash, is by selling the prizes that you win on Ebay, Poshmark, or Mercari.  You won't get rich doing this, but you will make a few extra dollars.  I also

Apps and Cash Back Links For Extra Money

I've downloaded and have been using a few apps to make extra money.  A lot of these apps let you choose your own reward such as Paypal, gift cards, or contest entries.  I prefer either Paypal payment or Amazon gift cards.  With the apps, I can use the same receipt for each one. Here are the apps that I like: ReceiptHog:  This app you scan in receipts.  It needs to have the Store name, address, items purchased, total amount, and date of purchase in order be a qualifying receipt.  Each receipt scanned gets you coins.  The more coins you earn, the closer you are to getting a money reward.  From what I've heard, there is currently a waitlist for this app. Fetch Rewards :  This is another receipt scanning app for grocery stores only.  Same requirements as ReceiptHog.  They also offer high point specials if you buy certain brands. You get $2.00 to start as a new user.  I currently have enough for a $10 amazon gift card. Ibotta : Most people have already heard of this one.

Welcome

As the world starts its recovery from COVID-19, the novel coronavirus, I decided to start a blog on ways to be frugal and save money.  Saving money and being frugal requires a certain mindset.  It's not an easy way to live at first, especially if you're used to spending money on life's little conveniences, but it is doable and for me at least, a necessity. I have about $48K worth of consumer debt and student loans that I would like to pay off as soon as possible.  To tackle this mess, I'll be taking on ways to make extra cash in addition to my regular income from my office job.  I'll also not be eating out except for really special occasions and will be making all my food from scratch.  Since I have a garden space, I'll be most of my produce and will be cutting down on red meat to save on my grocery bill. I hope you will enjoy following me on my financial recovery journey and also learn some new things along the way!
